I can’t believe Christmas is next weekend already how can that be? I feel so behind on everything this year I stall have to wrap all of my presents and pick out photos for our Christmas cards. I’m going to be so late getting them in the mail they will be more like a new years card. lol The only thing I’ve done is get the tree up and baked Christmas cookies. Ok I decorated the cookies and Emilia baked them with my mom, they where amazing! This time of year we always watch baking competition shows so we had lots of inspiration on what are cookies should be. We did a orange zest sugar cookie with chai tea icing. Just saying it makes my taste buds water!
I love Tartan skirts they make me think of all things Christmas in the 90’s. Probably because my mom had a table cloth in red tartan that she would bring out every year for Christmas. I was think I would love to find something for this year to wear. When I was in value village I spotted this vintage plaid skirt most likely from the 80’s or 90’s by looking at the label and the buttons down the front. I love that it has the buttons all the way down the front it’s such and elegant style that is so classic giving it that old money vibe.
How to style plaid and make it your own!
I love the colour blush it is my go to for any season so natural I had to incorporate this colour in my outfit. So I went with these pretty blush flats keeping it simple but the colour I love is still in my outfit. These shoes have a beautiful gold chain which goes perfectly with the black and gold buttons on my skirt. I also went with blush and gold pearl stud earrings and wore a light dusty pinks on my cheeks, eyes and lips!
Since this skirt is a statement on it’s own I kept all of the colours neutral. I recently purchased this adorable black quilted Kate Spade bag at the outlet in Niagara. I love this style especially with the straps there are so many ways you can wear it. The size is also perfect for my petite frame. I also chose to wear a black kit blouse with velvet details, because the skirt has white I think a pretty white blouse would also look great with this pattern.
I topped this look off with a long warm wool sweater after all this is Ontario and the temperatures are all over the place and freezing! Sometimes larger sweaters can make me look frumpy so by adding a belt over top at me waist helps to define me waist more and gives and elegant silhouette.
I can’t help but think of Joni Mitchell’s song river when editing these photos! I hope you enjoyed this holiday look and may everyone have a river they can skate away on.
