Our little girl is 3!
This years birthday party was quite different we have been in lockdown off and on all year. But with covids third wave hitting Ontario this spring sent us yet again into another lockdown. We knew that it would be just our immediate family attending the party this year, but we still wanted to make it special. Three is that age where they are really starting to understating and get excited about birthday parties.
I have always loved Monet’s water lilies paintings and I though it would be such a fun party idea! We spend a lot of time outside in the garden or enjoying nature so I know this was going to be the party theme this year.
Because of our lockdown situation I wasn’t able to go to stores to get party supplies and had to rely on what I had on hand. Most of the items I actually recycled from last years birthday party . This is such a grate way to reuse items you may already have and not only does it save on cost but also waste.
Normally I love to diy most of my party decor but I kept it simple, not to mention but planning and decorating for a party when your 8 months pregnant is no easy task. lol The only items where the window cutouts on the boxwood wall, the dessert table backdrop and the floral arch.
For the windows I used white foam core and drew on windows with a black marker then cut everything out. I wanted the windows to have a garden like feel with greenery growing on the walls of the building. A lot of my inspiration came from Claude Monet’s house in Giverny.
I painted the dessert table backdrop inspired by Monet’s beautiful water lilies paintings. I really wanted the colours to be rich in blues, purples and greens so that the pink water lilies would pop. This diy took me the longest I purchased the canvas before lockdown but ended up on having to order more supplies plus the added time of actually painting was a few weeks. I love how it turned out and this painting will find it’s new home in our dinning room because the colours match perfectly.
Lastly the floral arch above the window. I love when small shops in London have beautiful floral arches above the windows and doorways, it looks so pretty and elegant. So I wanted to try and recreate my own and I love how it turned out. I tied a rope around my window frame and started tapping and hot gluing fake florals all around the rope. After I had enough flowers I was able to just stick some more florals in loosely.
I love how romantic and elegant this party was. It felt so rich with beautiful bold and pastel colours and really reflects my personal style. It was also the perfect way to start off spring since it had been a long and cold dreary winter. We all had such a wonderful time and enjoyed eating cake for days!
