There are moments in life when you have to ask yourself an important question. Did I find the perfect backdrop for my outfit, or did my outfit manifest the perfect backdrop? Because when I walked past this dreamy French blue door, surrounded by gorgeous Versailles like architecture, with stunning overflowing planters of pansies in the exact colours I was wearing, I knew it was destined!

And yes, I am aware that sounds very dramatic. But this blouse was already giving “lot duchess who somehow ended up in a modern-day coffee shop, reverse outlander vibes”. The soft lilac colour with details around the collar and buttons, and those long dramatic puff sleeves felt like they belonged in an 18-century painting. Preferably one where you spent your days lounging in the garden because it’s champagne weather with an endless platter of petit fours and cucumber sandwiches…. Although realistically, I’m probably closer to spending all day hunting in the rain feeling miserable because I’m starving and hangry. You know, since I’m wearing trousers and woman typically did not wear them back then so why else would I be wearing pants and not a skirt?

Speaking of trousers, I went with a dark navy to complement my lilac blouse. Creating a harmonious flow just like the pansies in the planter, which happened to be the exact same shades of purple and navy as my outfit. My embroidered floral flats added the sweetest little garden detail that felt like an ode to when garments were crafted beautifully by hand. My Kate spade bag, in that iconic bright green shade, brought in the perfect pop of colour to tie everything together!

What once was old is new again, and if it’s not baroque don’t fix it. After all, a little lace, a little drama, and a little bit of Versailles never hurt anyone, especially if there’s cake and champagne waiting!
